Bossard Wheelers '10' 11th October 2025
Two Bossard Wheelers 10 mile time trials were added to the calendar recently, both on the F15/10 - probably the closest time trial course to where I live. I entered both of them (4th and 11th October).
The first was abandoned in the face of Storm Amy.
The second went ahead as planned in really quite good conditions.
The organiser had planned to use the CTT Timing app that was introduced earlier this year, but borrowed my timing watches ‘just in case’. It’s likely that my club will switch to the CTT online club event management system for 2026, largely owing to the rider insurance that is included. But also of interest is the timing app.
On the morning of the event, I got the tyres on my P5 TT bike pumped up and checked the gear batteries were charged. I set off in good time but I got a few hundred metres up the road when I realised that the Powertap wheel wasn’t connecting, so I went back, pumped up the tyres on my P3C (the bike was last ridden at the Duo Normand) and set off again to the meeting point of the race.
After a bit I resumed warming up and rode up to the start.
The first few hundred meters are a descent which can be tricky on a windy day. No problems as there was only a 4mph head wind. Once on the flatter part of the course, I found I wasn’t able to sustain my usual power level for the majority of the course. Maybe I’m just a bit jaded at the end of the season. Things were marginally better after the turn, but it was a bit of a relief to finish.
Wind conditions don't get much better...so no excuse there!
I ended up with 23:31 for 6th place out of 27 who started, so maybe not too shabby.
The CTT’s timing system seemed to give up the ghost, but as it turned out the times did all get recorded and found their way to the CTT server. So while the results weren’t instantaneous, we really didn’t need to wait too long for them.
And that’s that for the 2025 season - my next event will be the New Year’s Day ’10’.
